This tour of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula offers a mix of ancient historical sites and natural geological wonders. In addition to exploring Mayan temples, you will visit wildlife sanctuaries, beautiful lagoons, and rockpools, and of course, have some time on the beach.

DAY 1


You will arrive in Playa del Carmen and meet your tour director. Playa del Carmen is popular resort town famed for its coral reefs and its sparkling warm waters. Your leader will provide you with an orientation walk around this amazing town before you savor a delicious Mexican dinner.


DAY 2


Depart early for Merida, learning some Spanish from your guide on the way and stopping at Chichen Itza, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, for a tour.


Continue on to Merida where, after an orientation, you can wander the streets and take in the colonial buildings, learn about the town’s Mayan heritage and visit Mercado 60, a buzzing food market with international and local fare, along with the joys of live music.


DAY 3


Today you will be visiting the Celestun Bird Sanctuary where, depending on the season, you can be stunned by the flamboyant flamingos painting pink streaks across the sky. You will take a boat ride in which you can admire the local flora and fauna on the magical islands and secluded beaches in Celestun.

DAY 4


A free morning in Mérida awaits you, to have breakfast, buy some souvenirs and absorb the last urban experience of this trip. You will now be fully immersed in the most beautiful and natural sites of the Yucatan. You’ll travel for five hours to Calakmul, a remote archaeological site located deep in the jungle, and have dinner at the hotel.


DAY 5


You will visit the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve to explore the incredible Mayan site this morning. This World Heritage site is part of the largest area of tropical forest after the Amazon and has played an important role in the region’s history for over 1200 years. The well-preserved structures are surrounded by thick jungle teeming with exotic creatures; you’ll have time to explore this lost city for yourself once the tour finishes.

DAY 6


Transfer 2.5 hours today to the laidback town of Bacalar. Stop at Cenote Azul on the way, a beautiful fresh-water rockpool, and swim in the perfect blue water while marveling at the stalactites and stalagmites.


Your guide will then take you on an orientation walk around town and to a local restaurant for a delicious dinner.


DAY 7


Today you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the Lagoon of Seven Colors. A kayaking session in the lagoon will enable you to appreciate the textures and scents of this relaxing place. Bacalar is the perfect location to lay back and just soak in some healing sunshine!


DAY 8


Traveling to Valladolid after breakfast, a beautiful colonial town that embraces all of the Yucatan’s charm, you will taste delicious food, enjoy a friendly atmosphere, and bask in the incredible weather during a walking tour to explore the town’s charming colonial era churches and architecture.


In the afternoon, before dinner, you will listen to local artists playing lively music at the town’s main square.

DAY 9


You will drive to the beautiful coastal town of Tulum today — a place of gorgeous seas, blindingly bright sand and ancient ruins. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya and stood at the height of its progress during the 13th and 15th centuries.


Before arriving at Tulum, we will visit the beautiful site of Cobá. This great Mayan archeological site dates from 600-900 A.D. and there were an estimated 100,000 people living in its domain. You can explore the grounds of the site by bicycle if you like!


DAY 10


You will transfer to the airport in Cancun this morning, enriched by memorable experiences and adventures.
