Charlottetown is the capital of Prince Edward Island, one of Canada’s Atlantic provinces, which consists of an island of the same name and several other smaller islands. It is the smallest province in both land area and population. It is known as the “Birthplace of Confederation”, in reference to the Charlottetown Conference of 1864 that led to the foundation of Canada as a country. Prince Edward Island has approximately 150,000 residents with the majority of the population residing in Charlottetown, the capital of the province.
